Wartime Service Requirements For Aid And Attendance

Veterans must have served at least 90 days of active duty, with one of those days during wartime, and have received a discharge other than dishonorable.

What Is Considered War Time? VA Defined War Periods

Many people don't understand that the war times are actually far longer than they realize, and therefore think they don't qualify. Remember, you only need have served one day during war time - you need not have served in a war zone.

If you had 90 days of service, one day of which was within the following time frames, you may be a qualifying veteran:

  • World War II:  December 7, 1941-December 31, 1946

  • Korean Conflict: June 27, 1950-January 31, 1955

  • Vietnam Era: Nov 1, 1955-May 7, 1975. Veterans that served after August 5, 1964 may have served outside the Republic of Vietnam.

  • Persian Gulf War: August 2, 1990- date to be prescribed by Presidential Proclamation or law. Must have served active duty for two years or the full period of which the veteran was called for active duty.

Additionally, applicants must have limited income and assets to qualify for the program. Qualifying for the Veterans Improved Pension can be a complex process, and it is recommended that applicants work with a VA-accredited attorney to navigate the program's requirements and filing of their application.

Overall, the Veterans Improved Pension Aid and Attendance is a valuable benefit that could significantly benefit veterans, their spouses, and dependents who require long-term care.

Veterans Who Do Not Qualify for VA Compensation May Qualify for the Aid and Attendance Pension Program

Veterans Benefit Administration offers disability compensation and tax-free money for veterans who have been injured while serving in active service. Nevertheless, most people don't know that the VA pension programs offer for Wartime Veterans without service-connected disability.

VA Pension provides additional support to veterans who need additional financial aid in order to meet financial needs. One day of wartime service is essential in order to qualify for the pension, but veterans do not need to have served in combat or overseas.
